I have been a speech and language pathologist for 27 years. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Michigan State University and began my career in New Hampshire at Easter Seal Society in Manchester. There, I worked with orthopedists, psychologists, neurologists and occupational, physical, and cognitive therapists. This opportunity taught me to view all aspects impacting an individual and has made me a better diagnostician and therapist.

From Easter Seal, I moved to a public school setting at the elementary level, and shortly thereafter opened a private practice. I am a strong believer in working toward inclusion within the school setting. I also am very clear on the difference between therapy in a private practice and in a school setting.

Finally, oral placement therapy for feeding and speech has become a passion for me. My work with Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson, founder of Talk Tools, has changed the way I work with individuals for feeding and speech. I continue to be amazed at how effective this approach is for children as well as adults. Presently, I hold a Level 3 Certification in oral placement therapy. I am the only pathologist in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island who has this oral placement certification.

“Ann O’Neil Walker has a gift. She can relate to children, enjoy their humor, and appreciate their development while she works to improve their speech in ways they don’t even realize. Ann worked with our son Samuel from kindergarten through fifth grade. It felt like he was her only student – though we knew she had many others. She is a passionate believer in inclusion and worked to support Samuel’s communication in the classroom and with friends. She pushed him, but in a way he could manage. And she always brought her humor to her work with him. He adores her.”
